Partnership
Co-Branding.

Getaway x Walmart

In 2022, Getaway partnered with Walmart to bring a modern take on the general store to its outposts. As the lead designer, I worked with the in-house creative teams at both Getaway and Walmart as well as Clearsky Collective, to create a cohesive co-branding and visual language for the launch of the collaboration.

This included logo treatments for the General Store, partnership lock-ups, art direction on shoots and guest/user journey, design of launch communications (email, social), and custom merch.

Identity

In developing the co-branding, the goal was to find a balance between both the Getaway and Walmart identities that combined some of the classic tenets of a local general store while still feeling recognizable and familiar to Getaway’s guests.

Through stylistic elements of enclosure, sub-marks and arched type, we established a versatile logo and color system that could span across the range of treatments needed to merchandise and market the stores.

The hero color became a rich forest green, paired with a combination palette of Walmart’s gold, Getaway’s warm black and ivory, and a neutral crisp white.

Art Direction

“Everything you need and nothing you don’t” isn’t only Getaway’s motto, but the lens in which we approach all decisions around art direction, including partnerships. Clean design, clear visual merchandising and way-finding signage, photography that tonally feels warm and approachable; combined, these elements contribute to ease in the guest experience.

I worked alongside the in-house teams at Getaway and Walmart, as well as our consultants from Clearsky Collective, to weigh in on all guest touch points from a visual POV.

Application

Treatments of the visual language included: Store window treatment and mini store (vending machine) hang sign (vinyl, gold foil), self-service kiosk screen design, product hang tags, pricing and check out collateral, guest communications (email, SMS, social), as well as customized merch (Including branded tote bags, post cards, matchbooks, locally sourced pennant banners) for sale.
